My review of our class project.

At first, going into this, I wasn't sure how the whole process would go. It was my first time working with a group online, and I was a bit nervous. Collaborating with people online versus in person is somewhat of a  different feeling. I find it easier to connect with a person when it's face-to-face versus through a computer screen. Moreover, organizing and putting together all the different moving parts also come with its own set of issues. Thankfully my group rose to the occasion and did a great job, and so did the other groups as well. I would definitely consider this a great learning experience. Not only in planning, organizing, and delivering our group project but the information from the topics that other groups and we discussed. I will go into further detail on the things I liked about the different groups and the topics that stood out to me the most.     Beginning with Group One, my group. Our presentation covered "Chapter 3, Intercultural Communication."

In My Opinion

First Presentation                 What is the meaning of culture? I liked how in Andrew’s presentation he emphasized some of the behavioral manifestations because I wouldn’t have known what he was talking about. For example, music and dancing is an example of a manifestation, I didn’t know that, so I learned something new. I like that he gave a lot of examples of what he was talking about and made It easier to understand. Overall, his presentation was good.                 Intercultural communication I like the image Arialis used on her first slide, it really showed what her PowerPoint was about and how cultures all have different languages and communications. Her presentation helped me to understand what cultural shock was and how it can cause anxiety for people when they’re introduced into a new society. This makes sense too because the person may not be used to the customs of other societies so it could be difficult and confusing to many people. Her presentation helps me un

Arialis Perez      The group in which I participated was assigned Chapter 3, which covered the topic of Intercultural communication. First of all, I would like to point out that personally, this has been the most organized and compenetrated teamwork that I have been part of. Even though the whole process of work, from creation to presentation, was done virtually, I and the rest of the participants elaborated on the subtopics we were assigned. Even though each of us created our own slides, we managed to organize them in a way so the presentation ran as smoothly as possible. The topics in our group included Culture and Communication, Dominant Culture, Co-culture, and identity, How cultures differ and Developing intercultural communication competence. I chose to present Intercultural communication and its importance. For a little bit of context, I have moved from country twice, first to Ecuador and then here to the United States. Both times, the process of adaptation was slow and extended

Brian Rodriguez                    I felt so  much pressure when I found out that I had to present a project about the chapters. I've never been the type to be good at talking to an audience. Im the type of person that starts to get  nervous and that tends to lead to stuttering or me repeating the word "um". Not only that but I found  out that I had to present about a intresting topic, this had me thinking how was I going to present with good topics with out me boring the people that were listening. The group had split decisions on what sub chapters we would be working on to complete the chapter we were working on. We were group one so  we were working on "Intercultural Communication". Out of all the groups, our group was my favorite one.  The topic really helped me understand how different cultures around the world can be. We touched up on how different roles are played around the world, the meaning behind culture, the reason on why understanding cultures are i

Alessandro Lapomarda     I never liked reading and studying chapters, chapters, and chapters, but I enjoyed and learned new things by doing and following the presentations. I wasn't sure about my chosen sub-chapter, but I discovered exciting information.       This presentation was my first one; I was pretty nervous and not so confident to speak in front of my Mac. I have never done it before!! Now I understand how difficult it is to keep an audience "awake" on the other side. Professor Sinkoff is always on top of everything and explains very well all the topics. We decided as a team to split the presentation into subchapters, and thanks to the group leader, we did pretty well. We just had a misunderstanding between two group members, but we addressed the problem and resolved it in a few minutes. As the first group, we spoke about "Intercultural Communication." Each of us has different sub-topics. Following and listening to the presentation, I understood better

Own Experiences During Group Project

Image
I really enjoyed the process of completing this project. At the beginning I was a little nervous about the whole process of dividing the work among the group members and having to present my work in front of the whole class, but everything went smoothly and without any real complications. I am not really used to working in groups and although I generally prefer working alone without having to rely on anyone else, learning to work together with people is a really important life-long skill that we all need to have to be successful in life. I’ve had many group works along my whole academic life and they’ve almost always somehow proved to be a kind of stressful situation in different ways, and I personally tend to avoid having to complete my assignments this way whenever is possible, however, this group project wasn’t like that at all, (at least from my own experience when we were working in this project) we divided the work equally and very fluently without any issues, everyone did their

Brief comment about our project

In this space, I will make a brief report about how my first assignment in communication was, some of the themes brought up, and my personal experiences about the whole process. It was a relatively easy and very comprehensive topic, I think, for everyone, especially my part on communication and culture, in which I think I was able in 10/15 minutes to summarize the topic assigned to me well. I can already tell you that the experience itself was good, we didn't have any conflict or anything like that and everything was presented in the best way.         Chapter 3, in which I also participated, discusses intercultural communications and draws a parallel explaining aspects related to culture, communication, and where cultural agents converge and diverge. Being the first to present, I sought to answer basic questions related to the topic: What is the meaning of culture and communication, what is its importance, and the relationship between them? With that, I could summarize my
